Tough Decision

We met with Hayden's ENT today to review the CT films and the prognosis is not good. Dr. C told me on Friday when he called that Hayden's sinuses were "completely blocked" and I knew that didn't sound good, but looking at it in black and white definitely put it into perspective. He said the buildup couldn't be from an isolated infection, but has culminated over time. He had just finished a strong 20 day course of antibiotics when the scan was done and showed no signs of improvement.

After talking to Dr. C and asking a lot of questions, we decided to go ahead with the surgery. We have already taken all of the steps to be taken before surgery is considered and he hasn't improved. Treating it with antibiotics and steroids doesn't come without risk either and he most likely would not respond to this treatment based on previous history and the severity of his case.

He is scheduled for endoscopic sinus surgery, an adenoidectomy and ear tube replacement on Tuesday at 10 a.m. The surgery will take about an hour and a half. That may not seem like very long, but it will be an agonizing hour and a half for Mommy. :( When he had his tubes first put it in when he was only eight months old, it literally only took 5 minutes and that was hard enough. I don't know what I'm going to do for 90 minutes.

Dr. C explained the risks of the surgery to us and though they are very rare, I'd rather not think about it. So, if you're not busy at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, please say a prayer for us. Pray for wisdom for Dr. C, no complications during or after surgery and a smooth recovery for H. Oh, and if you would like to pray for me to that would be great. :) I could use it.

Hayden is tough and I realize that even more now. Dr. C said he has probably felt miserable for many months and has just adjusted to it because he doesn't know any better. While I am not excited about him having to have surgery, I do hope that he will finally get some relief.

I am going to start my maternity leave on Tuesday so I can be home with Hayden after the surgery and get ready for baby boy to get here.

We have a lot going on in the next few weeks, but we will survive. :)

  2. Oh girl..H man is a resilient little boy and he will bounce back quicker than you think..I'm sure of it! Just think---it's going to be soooo worth it for you & garrett and especially Hayden! I teared up while I was reading the blog because I cant imagine what 90minutes will be like for you both..but always remember God will take care of him and bring him back safely and healthy to you two! Put all your cares in God and if you need to call me and I'll stay on the phone with you for the whole procedure--you know i will too if you wanted! We could laugh & cry & talk about being mommys! :)I love you 3 and will say prayers for his procedure and for your sanity during it! =) xoxoxo
