You have probably seen several pictures on here of Hudson in the nap nanny. Well, it was recalled last week and you can read about it here.
Here's my thoughts on the issue, not that my thoughts count:
- First off, I will not be getting rid of the nap nanny because I know how to properly use it and I find it quite handy. Hudson really likes it too.
- Hudson has not slept in it since he was a month old and then it served its purpose quite well of keeping his head elevated while he had a cold and we were able to avoid any ear infections. It was on the FLOOR right next to my bed and I checked on him frequently. He was not mobile at that point either. It warns against letting a baby that can sit up sleep in it unsupervised.
- I wish I would have had one of these when Hayden was a baby and had reflux.
- It is like the bumbo or the bouncer or anything else for that matter in that you have to supervise your child while they are in it and you can't put it on top of the table or countertop or in the crib. If you'll remember, the bumbo was recalled several years ago only to be put back on the market with warnings for people who don't have common sense. Now, I think every single mom I know has a bumbo and knows that babies should be supervised in them.
- The incident that occurred involved a four month old baby being placed in the nap nanny inside of the crib when it CLEARLY warns against this. Would you let your child sleep in a bouncer in the crib? Probably not. It's the same concept. The baby leaned over the side of the nap nanny and got caught between it and the bumper. The bumper is a whole different topic of debate that I won't get into.
- It is sad that tragedies occur because people disregard safety warnings and risk harming their children simply because they think it won't happen to them. It can and it will.
Just thought I should shed some light on the situation since I've recommended this product to people.
