Mom Bangs and Other Random Confessions

I remember my hair falling out after I had Hayden and I'm not even sure it had stopped falling out before I got pregnant again. But now, I'm seriously not sure how I am not completely bald. It is crazy.

It must be some kind of cruel trick those nasty prenatal vitamins play on you. You get nine months of long, shiny, thick, lustrous hair only for it to all fall out and start growing back in not so desirable places.

I think I will forever have what I lovingly refer to as "mom bangs", only bangs isn't exactly the proper term. It appears horns have started growing out of the top of my forehead. My entire hairline has changed all the way around and I'm not sure there is anything to do about it so I'm just going to embrace it along with the stretch marks that have made their home on my thighs. Those two little boys make me appreciate every last one of them.

Its another one of those things they don't really tell you about pregnancy. Let's just be honest, while the "miracle in the making" is beautiful, the whole process is not always beautiful. Your body does some strange things I tell ya. I'm not going to list them for fear of anyone who hasn't had children running for the hills. My friend, Paige, kindly asked me to stop telling her these things.

On a sidenote, just some other thoughts about my everyday life.

1. Not gonna lie, sometimes I want to bang my head against the wall. My co-workers, also known as Hayden and Hudson, do not always follow the policies and procedures. I think we need to have a meeting about that.
2. If we go somewhere and both boys fall asleep in the car on the way back, sometimes most of the time I will drive around or sit in the driveway and enjoy the peace and quiet. The gas I am wasting is worth every bit of my sanity.
3. The other day I put on a dress and realized that the material was a little on the thin side so I went searching for a slip. I happened to find a slip in the drawer, but it was too long. So, using my superior intelligence, I got a pair of scissors and just cut it and wouldn't you know it looked exactly like something Wilma Flinstone would wear. Thank goodness it was underneath the dress and I just hoped like heck that one of my kids wouldn't hike up my dress and show off my stone age slip.

4. I have a bruise the size of a grapefruit on my leg and have no idea how I got it. True story. How does that happen? I was going to post a picture, but it looks disgusting.
5. I have found myself wishing everything had a drive-thru. Loading and unloading them in and out of the car just to get one or two things while one or both of them is screaming is hardly my idea of a good time. My biceps, however, are thankful. To make matters worse, the Starbucks by my house doesn't have a drive-thru. Epic fail. I will jump for joy the day I can just drive-thru at Target.
6. When you leave the Content Management System open that controls every website you manage and your 2.5 year old decides to play with the keyboard, this is not a good thing. Strange things get posted on the world wide web.

Is it Friday yet?

Confessions of a Work at Home Mom

1. Being a work at home mom is by far the hardest job I've EVER had. I feel like I have two full-time jobs.
2. Some days I am wearing the same thing when Garrett gets home at 6 p.m. that I was wearing when I got out of bed.
3. On above said days, I may or may not have even brushed my hair. However, I do try to make teeth brushing a priority.
4. Showering daily is now considered a luxury and washing my hair everyday does not really fit on the agenda.
5. I can talk to a board member, feed my baby and check my email while sitting in my underwear.
6. I look forward to Hayden's nap time every day because I can actually accomplish something while he's sleeping.
7. The dishes do not necessarily get done every night and I'm okay with that.
8. I have found random commentary in things I've written when I accidentally wrote was I was saying and not what I was thinking. For example, in the middle of an article I wrote "Stop picking your toes at the table." Say what? I wonder what would have happened if I had sent that out to 8,000 people. The joys of doing extensive writing in the midst of chaos.
9. I feel much better about life on the days that I actually do get dressed, brush my hair and go outside rather than be a prisoner of my home/office.
10. Sometimes I have to just go sit outside when Garrett gets home and enjoy a few moments of peace and quiet. Even when its 105 and the killer mosquitoes are biting the crap out of me, I revel in the quietness.
11. I can't remember the last time I went to the bathroom by myself without interruptions.
12. My patience is put to the ultimate test and I often fail miserably. This is something that I have to strive for and pray about daily.
13. It takes an enormous amount of self-discipline and time management to work from home with two kids. Would I rather sleep when they sleep and play when they play? Absolutely. However, I work when they sleep because that is when I can get the most done. Some of my most productive hours occur between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. I was offered this opportunity on the simple fact that my boss felt I had the self-discipline and time management skills to do it and I don't want to let her down so I wear myself out making sure of that.
14. I must confess that I do sometimes miss going to Starbucks on the corner downtown, having lunch with my co-workers and having any alone time at all.
15. Sometimes I have to lock myself in the bathroom to take a business call to avoid the person on the other line hearing a crying baby or my other child running around like a headless chicken in the background. I just have to hope they don't hear the headless chicken child beating on the door asking me if I'm going "poo poo" because that is what normal people do in the bathroom.
16. I do not take naps. Even if I wanted to I couldn't because the boys rarely take naps at the same time and if they do its not for very long. I am trying to get them on the same nap schedule so I can be more productive in the afternoon though.
17. Yes, I do have a little help with the kids, but in an effort to save money (that is a separate post) she only comes eight hours a week and I usually work almost 40. This is mostly so Hayden can get out of the house and do fun things. If he stays in here too long he gets bored and then he misbehaves and I try to avoid that.

Even on the bad days when I feel like pulling my hair out and everything is falling apart, I would not trade being able to spend my days with my babies for anything in the world. I love being able to watch them grow and reach new milestones. I consider it a huge blessing that I have been given this opportunity.

For you see, through the chaos, messes, fits and crying, I catch a glimpse of this...

and there's nowhere else I'd rather be.
