I have talked about Christie before, but I would like to share again. I met Christie while working at Covenant in Lubbock and I will surely never forget her. She touched my life more than she will ever know...even though I tried to tell her. It can't really be defined by words. She churned something deep inside me and I will never be the same.
In December of 2007, at the age of 29, Christie was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 8 ½ weeks pregnant with her second child. Ten days later, she underwent a mastectomy of her right breast and just three short weeks later, she began chemotherapy. She completed six rounds of chemotherapy during her second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Laney Grace was born in June 2008. Five days after Laney's birth, Christie underwent a series of scans that revealed NO CANCER. She began radiation the week following Laney's birth to complete her treatment. Since the night she was diagnosed, Christie prayed that God would allow her to be His light, hence the name Laney which means "bright light."
She has raised tons of money for cancer research which included a 60 mile walk in three days that raised $35,000 and has been so humble through this whole experience.
She recently underwent a mastectomy of her left breast and is in the process of bi-lateral reconstruction. This process has been very painful for her and she had to have surgery again on Tuesday due to some difficulties.
Please think of her and her family. She will have to have surgery again in March to complete the reconstruction. She is an amazing person with a beautiful heart and His light is most definitely beaming through her. If you would like to read her full story click here. (I just realized you have to create a username/password and then search Christie Devitt.)
