Captain Grumpy Pants is the name I have fondly come up with for Hayden. He does NOT wake up in a good mood and actually wakes up rather grumpy 99% of the time.
He comes out of his room and shuts the door (more about this later) and comes around the corner and usually has a meltdown and turns around and goes back. Then he will come around the corner again and immediately head straight for the kitchen and begin his tirade. He does this in the morning and after his nap. Then we begin World War III over what he wants to eat which consists of offering him something and him refusing and crying until a compromise is finally made and we sit him at the table. He usually gets in trouble because he is throwing such a huge fit. The only thing I can think of is that his blood sugar is low when he wakes up because he is usually fine after he eats. I think part of it may also be that he can't always tell us exactly what he wants and he gets frustrated. Does this happen to anyone else with a toddler?
Back to the door. I think he might be just a little OCD. He always closes the door behind him when he leaves a room. If he is playing in the backyard I try to leave the glass door open, but he insists on it being shut. Crazy kid! He also picks the skin around his nails all the time until his fingers are raw. Maybe that's just a boy thing?
He has mastered the iPhone and can unlock it, pick which app he wants and navigate through it all by himself. I like to tell myself that he is working on his hand-eye coordination, but honestly sometimes I just need five minutes of peace. He watches children's songs on YouTube and can get to it without any help. He asks me for "weelawalla da bus" (Wheels on the Bus) and "spier" (Itsy Bitsy Spider) at least 800 times a day. I have several other children's apps on my phone for him that I was surprised to see him navigating through all on his own.
Potty training is still going well. He hadn't had any accidents in five days until we went to San Angelo for the weekend and that threw him off track a little bit, but it's all good.
His little personality is really blossoming and he makes me want to laugh, cry and often scream all at the same time. He has a mischievous grin and keeps me on my toes. I'm not going to lie, the days are rough sometimes, but I have enjoyed being able to spend every day with him and watch him grow and learn. I don't have to feel like I'm missing out anymore.
I am new at this being home all the time though and I feel like he gets bored sometimes because he is so used to constantly doing something at daycare. I start working next week and the nanny will be coming three days a week. I have signed him up for a gymnastics class and soccer tots because he has a lot of energy that needs to be expelled. What are some things that you do with your kids during the day? I'm up for ideas.
*The pics are from this past weekend. Just thought I'd throw them in for fun.
