I started this post over a month ago and I'm so glad I can share it now! We found out on June 30 that we are expecting baby number two! We are still not exactly sure what my due date is, but sometime in early March. We are so very excited and thankful for this beautiful gift.
I have been trying to keep track of what's been going on the last month below:
Tuesday, June 30 - I had been telling Garrett for several days that I had "that feeling" again like I did with Hayden. I had no physical reason to think I was pregnant and it was still too early, but I just knew. Sure enough, the test or should I say tests (I took two) were positive. It is strange how I know these things. He thought I was crazy, but I told him I had only had "that feeling" one other time and I was right that time!
Wednesday, July 1 - I called the doctor to have a blood test done and made an appointment for Thursday morning.
Thursday, July 2 - I met with Dr. C and thought I would just have a blood test and be sent on my way, but he did an ultrasound to check things out. It was still too early to see anything so he wanted me to make an appointment for the following week. He did warn me about ectopic pregnancy, but I felt and still feel like everything is fine.
My prayer each time I've gone to the doctor is this "May Your peace that passes all understanding fill this room and may You make Your presence known." So, when he told me all of this he was surprised at how well I handled it, but I certainly wasn't. I got the lab results back at the end of the day and the nurse told me I was definitely pregnant, but I caught it really early and that's why we didn't see anything. She told me to come back on Monday for follow-up bloodwork.
We went home for July 4 weekend and kept our little secret.
Monday, July 6 - I went back for more bloodwork Monday morning and they called me at the end of the day. My hcg levels had more than doubled from 144 to 956, but my progesterone level had dropped from 21.9 to 17. My previous doctor never checked my progesterone levels, so this was all new to me. Dr. C prescribed Prometrium progesterone supplements, but I didn't start taking them right away.
Thursday, July 9 - I had another ultrasound and visited with Dr. C because I was leaving town for work that weekend and he wanted to check things out. I saw the gestational sac and then did more bloodwork. Again, the hcg level had more than doubled. I started taking the Prometrium because my progesterone level dipped again.
I started feeling sick on Saturday and that continued through the next week while I was in Houston for work. It is an all day sick, not just morning. I never had morning sickness with Hayden. I was exhausted by the end of the week and ready to be home!
We went to the doctor on July 22 and that is when we got to see our little bean and his/her little heart just beating away! Amazing! My doctor thanked me for being patient. He said I caught this one really early and he wanted to be sure everything was okay. I had a good feeling the whole time though and never felt like anything was wrong so I went with my intuition. We are still not sure what the due date is because I can't remember the last date.
July 27 - We broke the news to everyone, much to their surprise!
I have continued to be sick. I am nauseous all day, every day. I was in Houston for work last week too and I got really sick when I got there Sunday night and had to stay in my hotel room Monday and Tuesday. It was not fun. Now, I am just back to the usual nausea. I can still eat, but I have strong food aversions. Things gross me out that normally wouldn't bother me. Overall, things are going really well though!
This pregnancy is already so different from the first. Everyone keeps telling me that it is going to be a girl, but we shall see. We would be completely happy with a boy or girl.
I am about 8 1/2 weeks right now. I go to the doctor again tomorrow so I will keep you posted!
